(This article may contain spoilers to Age of Ultron!)
Spring is upon us, it's a season of change and new beginnings. Today Avengers: Age of Ultron will be open for wide release. Just like the season, this symbolises a shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The end of Phase 2 and perhaps the end of the Avengers as we know it but the beginning of something new.
Joss Whedon has already confirmed that by the end of this flick, the Avengers will be reassembled in to a new line up. For those who have caught advanced screenings, or midnight release screenings, the identity of the new Avengers has already been revealed. For the sake of spoilers, I'll stay away from revealing the ‘new’ faces of the MCU Avengers.
This may come as a shock to those in the audience who are not familiar with the printed history of the Avengers, but there have been more changes in the Avengers Line up than there are dress switches at a Madonna concert. Here are five of my favourites!
Dark Avengers

This is by definition the opposite of the Avengers as we know it, though at this stage in the MCU, it seems an unlikely roster.
Uncanny Avengers- Avengers Unity Squad

Captain America pulls together the best of both teams, including Thor, Scarlet Witch, Cyclops’ brother Havoc, Storm, Rogue and Wolverine. This later expands to an entire division, with members of both series switching in and out of the roster.
The Avengers and X-Men teaming up represents a coalition of two of the largest series in the Marvel Franchise. But with Sony owning the cinematic rights to the Mutants, a whisp of this roster seems a long way off. Though It's true that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will be on our screens tomorrow, and the recent deal for Spider-Man shows that negotiations are possible, the idea of Sony sharing the X-Men seems nonexistent.
Illuminati Avengers

The Illuminati dip their fingers in everything, and often they make decisions which eventually have a dire impact for humanity. For example, when
Iron Man, Reed, Black Bolt and Dr.Strange aim to solve the ‘problem’ of the Hulk by shooting him in to space, they set of a series of events which leads to the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk Seasons.
With the Inhumans and Dr. Strange confirmed for the upcoming MCU phases, I don’t think it would be unrealistic to expect that the expansion of the MCU will enthralled lead to the formation of an illuminati on screen.
The Defenders

Originally, the Defenders were formed to defend earth against the more subtle supernatural forces. Dr Strange assembled the Defenders to keep the mystical forces in the darker dimensions at bay. In the MCU, the Defenders seem to be the street level heroes of the world, with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the Irony Fist already confirmed for assembly. Though for now we have only seen Daredevil and it appears to be relatively devoid of the mystical forces that were present in the original. Though with Doctor Strange and Iron Fist on their way, and the Inhumans creeping through the woodwork in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it shouldn't be long before Murdock finds himself up against something superhuman!
Also, with Daredevil confirmed for being in Captain America: Civil War, the Street-level feel of the MCU Defenders definitely put them on the side of Antiregistration.
Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers

At first this looks like a joke, but when you consider that Marvel Studios has confirmed that they will now be releasing animated films that are canon to the MCU and with the Inhumans coming, maybe it's not as far off as expected. Maybe if this really happened in the MCU Rocket Raccoon could get involved!
