“Zed’s dead baby! Zed’s dead!” Yes! It’s true, Zed’s dead (baby) but Pulp Fiction lives forever.
In fact Pulp Fiction is eternal, immortal and without a doubt invincible and to be able to discuss my favourite film is a privilege. Candidly speaking, Pulp Fiction is the greatest film of all time. The one and only Quentin Tarantino gave an interview, in 1993, fresh from the success of Reservoir Dogs to promote Pulp Fiction. He stated, “This is some of the best stuff I’ve ever written. I am aiming for this film to be remembered thirty years from now as a classic.” It’s now twenty years in and it can be confirmed it is without a doubt a classic. This film is on a pedal stool of perfection where it is now part of pop culture, as it carries interest from generation to generation.
In terms of pop culture, it has achieved more than its fair share of success. Nonetheless, if Forest Gump can spawn a Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant chain around the world, where’s Jack Rabbit Slim’s? Or even better Big Kahuna Burger? Millions of people would eat in these fictional joints in “two shakes of a lamb’s tale,” Tarantino should think about generating this idea if he wants his masterpiece to be truly remembered. (Ed: I just think people enjoy saying "Is he a bitch?" more than the examples given.)
Only Richard Linklater and Kevin Smith get away with unnecessary dialogue, but no one does it better than Quentin Tarantino. Pulp Fiction is stronger than ever and is regarded as a top ten film of all time. Let’s re-examine in another twenty years whether the film will be placed on a higher pedal stool. I’m sure it will!
