For my Scary Movies For Children I will be reviewing Monster House. It's one of my much loved films that I have not watched as many times as I would have liked to (something about bad time management and only wanting to watch it around Halloween.)
I love it so much because it ticks all the boxes, and strangely for a ‘horror’ film it has quite a heart-warming story. I love that contradiction it has. It’s also great to see one of those childhood nightmare fantasies come to life: the creepy house across the street is in fact haunted. However it’s probably not that wonderful for the 10 year old watching their worst nightmares come to life before their very eyes. Buy hey, can’t please them all!
Monster House is my second favourite kids Halloween film, behind The Nightmare Before Christmas.I just can’t get my head around the fact that it only receives a 6.6 rating on IMBD, and 74%. The plot was extremely well worked and the visuals were great for a film that was made at that time. I also think that it’s a huge shame that Kenan has not been involved in very much since.
But I will say kudos to you Kenan, I think you did a excellent job on your first feature. I feel you have the potential to create something amazing again.
