There is a special place in heaven for people who are talented at conveying some sort of stunning visuals. Especially for someone who can only work in words and whatever she imagines doesn't work as well on paper. For there are those who can sketch near perfect (or abstractly beautiful) paintings, transferring a story in strokes and exquisite artistry to those who can heighten a film by seeing the beauty around the characters. There are those who can contort their limbs into shapes set to rhythmic music and convey the vividness in the words and beats of the song. There are some excellent and brilliant people like in Ryan Woodward, who can combine these two things (dancing and drawing, by the way) into the most fantastic short film Thought Of You.
What Woodward does with his short is make it gloriously visual without cutting back on the plot or characters. Though the tale is inspired by the music that jovially echoes through the film, the chemistry between the animated characters (that is inspired by the real life dancers who magnificently gift the drawings with these exquisite movements) is redolent and striking. It is poignant with its smooth and captivating performances enhanced by Woodward’s sublime animation that give another depth of emotion to the short film. Filled with heartbreak, lust and love, Thought of You is a greatly done film that conveys the tender heart of love as it builds and breaks against another. Almost experimental, with the animator able to evolve from just simple human sketches into weirder and more provoking ones, Woodward has captured a heightened and glorious spirit here.
