Who doesn’t like zombie films? There are zombie films to suit anyone, comedy such as Shaun of the Dead, romance like Warm Bodies, action packed like World War Z, or scary, such as Dawn of the Dead.
Mitch Cohen comes along with a completely fresh movies named Super Zero. The film revolves around main character Josh, a student who loves mechanics and engineering. He gets a phone call from his doctor telling him that he has a rare, terminal brain cancer. Because of this phone call, he decides he will take his own life, because he felt like he had nothing to life for, and that he was a pathetic joke (there are many darker elements here).
The film is a equal parts hilarious and dark - enthusing the hilarity of the characters and their realistic drollness. The comedy comes from Josh's attitude that many would have after being told that they were dying - which is flippancy. It works comparatively to the more surreal or completely humanistic attitudes around him. For example, Chuckles, who is on the team, found himself at a children's birthday when it all happened and now he is stuck in a costume. It's this kind of joke that works in the post -apocolyptic world.
But there are still the bleaker elements that balance with the frivolity and fun. The dark fact that the only reason why the zombies do not try to kill him, is because they think that he is already dead is chilling as well as the loss of a majority of human life. Cohen has created a terrific short film with great acting, a great plot and very lifelike zombies (if zombies can be lifelike.) Not to mention there is a lovely message too, that even if you think you don’t have a part to play in the world, that you don’t have a reason or amazing skills or a reason to exist; you do - you just don’t know it yet. Plus, it has great special effects, stunning aesthetics and a rambunctious spirit through-out
It's also the most bad-ass superhero origin story and we are demanding that the Super Zero team create more. It is going to be a a series right guys? Right?
