Today is a special day. And it requires a special article. I’m With Geek recently celebrated its first birthday earlier this month, and one year ago my first ever piece went up on the site. And you know what?
It’s hard to remember not being a writer.
In my spare time, I tend to visit an online Doctor Who forum, and believe it or not that was where I met the editor Will and his girlfriend Kim, who both moderated the forum. Will (Or “Bowtiesarecool”, as he was known back then) sent me a message one day, telling me about his ideas for the site and asking me if I’d like to be a writer. My passion for film was no secret to the users of that forum, and I accepted immediately. A few months later, the website went live, and the first thing I ever wrote was a predictions piece about Iron Man 3 (which I wrongly predicted would be good). Since then, I’ve reviewed new releases, discussed essential films from the biggest stars, and reviewed some of my favourite TV shows. To put it shortly, it’s been a fantastic year.
First off, to Bowtie- I mean, um, Will for giving me this opportunity. In fact, I cannot thank him enough for believing I was good enough to put out to the world.
Then of course our lovely film editor Sarah, who I may not always see eye-to-eye with when it comes to films or editors (*cough* Benedict *cough*) but that only makes it more interesting to talk to and work with her, and she has always helped me whenever I needed it.
To the rest of the film team, whose hard work makes it a pleasure to be a part of said team.
To Matt and Graham for publishing all my TV reviews and allowing me to get my thoughts out on the shows I love.
And finally, my friends for reading and sharing my work, and sometimes even giving me ideas. Writing for I’m With Geek has been an absolute pleasure, and hopefully I’ll be here for many more years to come!
Now, what was it I had to write next?....
