As we’ve noted before here on I’m With Geek, Rio 2 marks the first sequel to come from Blue Sky Studios outside of their now well-worn Ice Age movies (though another is on the way), so the chance to take off once more with Blu and Jewel (once again voiced by Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway, respectively) for more adventures of comedy and awkward flight was clearly too tempting to pass up.
For this time round, Blu, Jewel and their three kids take a journey to the Amazonian rainforest to meet a newly discovered group of other Spix’s Macaws, including Jewel’s father. However, once there, our hero Blu discovers some threats to his world in the form of a new face, Roberto (voiced by Bruno Mars), and an old one, Nigel (voiced by Jemaine Clement). Feathered hilarity and singing shall indeed ensue. And, in advance of the impending arrival, some clips have become available for audience’s to wet their beaks.
The first clip is very much about getting the old band back together. Blu and Jewel are obviously present, as are the three children they have hatched between the two films. The decision to travel to the Amazon has been made and it’s time to go. However, they can’t go without their friends, so a host of familiar faces come along for the ride. Rafael, Nico, Pedro, even Luiz the bulldog all get their time onscreen.
