Ed Helms has been popular in the last few years for his performances in films like The Hangover, Cedar Rapids and We’re The Millers. It was announced in July 2012 that he would play a grown up Rusty in this new film, but for a while, production seemed to placed on the back burner. But now things are in full swing, as Rusty takes his wife and kids on a family vacation with (hopefully) hilarious results.
So what they’re basically doing is recasting Clark Griswold.
It’s easy to see Ed Helms playing the type of character that Chevy Chase played in the original films (Chase and on screen wife Beverley D’Angelo will also be making cameo appearances) but it’s debatable as to whether or not it will suit his son. Perhaps it’s the better alternative to just making a proper reboot. Whatever this film intends to do, it needs to be a redeeming film. The original Vacation is great, European Vacation is ok and Christmas Vacation is one of the best Christmas films ever made. From then on, it became straight to DVD Stuff starring Randy Quaid.
Could this be the film that breathes life back into the franchise?
