The MTV Movie Awards aren’t exactly the most, well, pivotal of the award season. Don’t get me wrong, it’s one of the most fun, especially when hosted by Amy Schumer, But when awards such as Best Shirtless Performance (Zac Efron, by the way) are announced, you know you aren’t in for a serious amount of poignant award giving. The MTV Movie Awards are based solely on the audience votes who come in their thousands to award those who would be genuinely missing from the other lists such as The Oscars and The BAFTAs. So you have a general idea on exactly why, in this award ceremony, people Jennifer Lopez won an award as well as Bradley Cooper for The Boy Next Door and American Sniper. Sigh.
Meryl Streep won Best Villain for her romping turn in Into The Woods whilst Jennifer Lawrence’s melodic song of rebellion “The Hanging Tree” won Best Musical Moment. Best WTF Moment went to Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne for that breast milking scene. Robert Downey JR was given the most prestigious MTV Generation Award, which was presented by the other Avengers. Kevin Hart won Comedic Genius.
Just to reinforce the atmosphere around these awards; Boyhood, Selma and Gone Girl were all nominated at lost out. Martin Luther King lost Best Hero to The Maze Runner. So, there’s that. Here’s the full list of winners, I can practically hear your toes curl.
