Over the weekend, Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine, who starred as the lovable red necks in the film, were at a panel to discuss the first movie and Tudyk let slip the news that a sequel is going to happen. As a fan of the first movie, this news is very exciting to me. It seems that everyone thought that a sequel was never going to be on the cards, and Tudyk was even quoted as saying that he didn’t think one was going to happen when he was recently interviewed at SXSW. It was only after this interview came out that he was contacted to say that he was wrong and things were moving along in the way of a sequel.
For those that haven’t seen the 2010 film, the plot revolves around Tucker and Dale, who are just trying to have a nice quiet break away and do some work on their newly acquired log cabin. However, a group of teenagers from the city are also in the area and things take a turn for the worse when the teens think that Tucker and Dale are slightly more deranged than kind. The film plays on all of the tropes and traditions you would expect to find in a hillbilly horror film and turns them on their heads with some rather brilliant comedic outcomes. The original film really hasn’t had the recognition it deserves, so I highly recommend going out and watching it before the sequel comes out.
I hope that the next film still manages to bring the right amount of comedy, horror traditions, and characterization that the first film had.
