Everyone knows that The Doctor is my favourite time traveller. Perhaps some of you will be wondering “well who else could really compete?” But in actual fact, the choice is much harder than it first seems.
You see, The Doctor only piped the post, in front of Henry DeTamble from The Time Traveller’s Wife (2009).
Now it can be said that your other half putting on The Time Traveller’s Wife could be a complete nightmare for guys. It’s one of those tear jerking films that will leave girls with piles of used tissues, snotty noses and red eyes. So it’s not a film for everyone. However it is my favourite stand-alone film of all time. The reason? Well there is a pretty significant one….
Firstly, the casting choices. Eric Bana as Henry is brilliant, really embodying the role of Henry nearly exactly how he is in the book and that is some feat. It is somewhat irksome when an actor or actress doesn't fit the role. Bana does an excellent job as Henry, and it’s at times like this when I get infuriated that such great actors, like Eric Bana, do not get enough recognition. The only other hyped-up film he has been in since Time Traveller’s Wife is Star Trek (2009.) Also impressive is Rachel McAdams, who I had not heard of before, has been in both Sherlock Holmes films and The Vow since 2009. Although not the main positive of the film, the acting choices are definitely a bonus.
Now I will argue anyone about the greatness of this film. I don’t care that Metacitic only gave it 47% and the average IMDB rating is 7 out of 10. I know a film is great when it does what it sets out to do. In this case, it definitely achieved in its aim of tugging at the heartstrings and making me want to watch it again and again. Plus, there aren’t many films that, despite the somewhat sad ending, make me feel a lot better if I’m feeling under the weather.
