Eighties teen movies are obligatory viewing. Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink; even St Elmo’s Fire, when you plunge into the depths of these movies, you’ll find all you want and need out of a movie; morality, feelings, drama and wit. One such film will always resonate louder than the rest and that is the brilliant Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, a movie that launched the career of baby-faced Matthew Broderick. So when both my little brother and sister turned the ripe old age of 12, I finally sat them down to teach them the ways of Bueller (adhering to parental guidance laws, yo). What I found upon this particular viewing was very loud resonating feelings for “sidekick” Cameron Frye. And how Cameron is the ultimate modern day hero.

Sometimes things work better on the stage, just as some stories work better on the screen. I’m sure it’s the same for a film fan, seeing a favourite film being transferred to the stage. The film of Jersey Boys received mixed reviews. Despite this, the film actually worked. To anyone who hasn’t seen the stage show, I can understand why they wouldn’t enjoy the film. With the release of the film version on DVD, here’s why Jersey Boys made a somewhat decent, but not quite adequate, transition. by Cookie N screen Live in Leicester Square tonight, the stars of Horrible Bosses 2 will done the red carpet. On the list Charlie Day, Jason Sudekis and Jason Bateman are all shimmying down the exciteable London in celebration of their film! Starring Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, Chris Pine, Jamie Foxx and that illustrious Austrian Christoph Waltz up there,Horrible Bosses 2 centres around our three heroes from the first film who conspired to kill their maniacal supervisors. This time around Nick, Dale and Kurt have moved on and opened a business for themselves. However, when they make a deal with business man and his son, it all goes awry when their product is stolen and repackaged. They concoct a plan to kidnap the younger of the pair and ransom him. It then goes a bit pear-shaped from there. Keep up to speed with tonight event by joining us for a very special live-stream! Starting at 4.30 pm, tonight! by Matthew Gammond If Man of Steel, Prometheus and the video game Dead Island taught us anything it’s that you should never trust a trailer. Marketing is a dodgy business and more often than not something is made to look a lot better than it actually is by a well-polished, moving and bombastic advert. We’ve all felt the disappointment, realised the hype was unnecessary and felt duped into buying a ticket. This was my greatest fear surrounding Interstellar, the latest cerebral blockbuster from mastermind and all-round movie deity Christopher Nolan. by Sean Narborough After watching The Drop, I had to go back and watch the trailer for the film, and I realised that the film that the trailer had promised didn’t show up. The trailer for The Drop portrayed a dark and gritty tale of respect and revenge as Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini find out who stole from them while having to deal with a dangerous man in Matthias Schoenaerts. Strangely though, we don’t get that sort of film. The first half does have that gritty feel, especially when you see someone’s ankle drilled into the floor of a van, but as the film progresses the darkness of the film disappears. They seem to have missed a step particularly in the third act of the film and it just leaves you with a feeling of “What did I just watch?” by Cookie N Screen There is a lot to be said about this worldwide phenomenon that launched the careers of its players and changed the climate of young adult fiction. Based on a popular series of books, the death-defying plot sees the pitting of children against one another in survivalist combat until one victor stands (aka, a prepubescent Thunderdome of death). The antagonist Katniss is thrust from her impoverished life and thrust into a world of murder. The first step into translating the best-selling stories was the shaky and flawed The Hunger Games, which relied too heavily on “realistic” camera techniques. Picking the pieces up from Gary Ross’ venture into the dystopian world, Francis Lawrence did what many haven’t – create a film that both appeases the existing fanbase of the books and brings new ones into the arena. Grandiose yet still with that wrenching vein and explosive action, it delivered an excellent heart-thudding movie that thrilled many. by Leah Stone The blue-ray edition of Beauty and the Beast, after spending two years in the Disney Vault, has finally been released again. The classic is back! Most people on this planet know the Beauty and the Beast story. It is one of forbidden love, with themes of pain, anger and hurt but with a constant vein of hope of finding true love. Beauty and the Beast, much like many of the other Disney classics, has many amazing morals to teach its young viewers, as well as a brilliant storyline and, of course, no Disney film is complete without a happy ending. by William John Comic Geeks and Cosplayers the world over are rejoicing today in the wake of huge casting new for DC’s upcoming Suicide Squad big screen adaptation. Margot Robbie, known for her role in The Wolf of Wall Street, will be taking on the role of the psychotic ex psychologist, Dr Harleen Quinzel, better known as the red and black clad Harley Quinn, whose character has seen a meteoric rise in popularity in recent years. The casting comes just days after rumours of Jared Leto taking on the Clown Prince of Crime himself, filling the massive shoes left behind by Heath Ledger’s Joker. Once a criminal psychologist at Gotham’s Arkham Asylum, Quinzel fell for the bat-shit insane Joker and joined his life of crime, sporting a fetching variety of harlequin themed costumes in the process. Her appearance in the Suicide Squad gave Quinn the chance to shine by herself as a member of a government covert ops team comprising of death row inmates. Robbie’s casting marks the first live action appearance of the character, excluding tiny roles in Birds of Prey and Arrow. Margot Robbie has proved she’s got the chops to play a feisty leading lady, walking circles around Leonardo DiCaprio in sharp, high-heeled shoes in The Wolf of Wall Street, and is set to be the perfect addition to the supervillain led release of 2017, alongside rumours of Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Jesse Eisenberg, reprising his role as Lex Luthor from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
