I mean I thought this was it when the first Avengers came out, but so much has happened since then that I now see that the Avengers Assemble was literally just the beginning. This article is just a celebration of how things have changed since then, of why we should all be so excited for Avengers: Age of Ultron this weekend, and of what’s to come.

Gorgeous hand drawn animation has been dwindling since the resurgence of computer graphics and the rise of Pixar. The stunning talented people wielding their pens come to cinematic glory in varying levels of success - often regaled to occasional success on the independent circuit (see: The Song of the Sea, The Tale of Princess Kaguya and many, many more). It’s hard to look underneath the seamless ease of computerised developed characters to find the earnest evocative hand drawn spectacles that capture the wildest of imaginations.

Enter Cumulus, a brand new animated short film from filmmaker Ioan Holland.

The Emperor's New Clothes - Review

The Emperor's New Clothes is a pretty hard hitting political documentary, but it strives to be relatable to the average layman. As Brand says at the opening of the film, ‘everything you see in this film, you already know.’ The film addresses issues on employment, housing, austerity measures, benefit cuts, tax evasion (both offshore and international), police brutality and especially the disaster which is our current banking system.

Last night I continued my stalking of Scarlett Johansson. Wait, what? I have to cover the whole premiere? Oh my mistake, let me start over.

Last night I attended the European premiere for one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Held in London’s Westfield in Shepard’s Bush, thousands of Marvel fanboys and girls were in attendance trying to get a glimpse of their favourite stars. After hours of waiting, the show officially kicked off, being presented by idiot film critic Mr. Alex “I gave Prometheus five stars” Zane. After the moron teased us for another 20 minutes we finally had our first big name, writer and director Joss Whedon. Whedon gave out to huge ovation, as it was obvious there was a lot of Buffy and Firefly fans at the premiere. Later in the evening, Joss talked about making the film and the insane pressure he felt during the making of it and how it was “hard to write, difficult to shoot, horrible to edit and longed for death”. Next up was the voice of Jarvis and now the face of The Vision, Paul Bettany. In person, Bettany has a very cool and sophisticated presence, at one point he was walking around with a gin and tonic in hand. I think every man can aspire to be like Bettany when they are older.

“Everything but the kitchen sink, aye?”

This man chuckled as I lugged a table onto a train and shoved it against the window in hopes that the regular service to London doesn’t fill up with people lining up to glare at me for using a seat for an inanimate object (under the advice of the conductor, by the way). This wasn't the first or last time someone who scoff about the table. It would be many times that people humorously said comments to me.

“Ha ha,” I said as sweat poured down the innards of my back, my face red from the ridiculous amount of stairs and lengths between bus stops that I had to drag two bags full of props, equipment and the filthiest table you can imagine down as we ventured London for the weekend. Living in the middle of nowhere and not knowing how to drive has is its massive disadvantages that if I’d know at some point in my life I’d be lugging the entire contents of my living to the capitol, I’d have kicked my arse into that Learners seat pronto.

The Earth is a rather wrought place to live on indeed. It is one that struggles with its own inhabitants. As the human race plunges forward with their own development, they in turn bulldoze over the land that has let them thrive. This species that dominates the spiralling planet produces large amounts of toxins and waste that poison the very environment that gives us life. It’s a tense and debilitating relationship with Mother Nature that led us to try to converse and recycle. Heck, we even have a day for it. This Wednesday, the 22nd of April, we celebrate the planet that’s revolving at 900 miles per hour (that’s nineteen thousand miles a second, so they reckon) and to celebrate it all, Guy Field’s captivating documentary film Planetary comes orbiting our stratosphere.
