The world primarily knows him as Loki, Thor’s evil brother, Asgardian Prince and the God of Mischief. However, British star Tom Huddleston has made quite a name for himself, not just with his role as Loki, but in countless other films, television series and as a stereotypical, lovable British gentleman. The world adores him, but what caused Mr Hiddleston to become so famous? Is it his acting ability? His way with the fans? Or perhaps just his adorableness? Well, you are here to find out.
Of course, he is best known for his portrayal of Loki in the Thor movies and The Avengers, for which he has won one empire award and two MTV awards. He had originally auditioned for the part of Thor, but lost out to Chris Hemsworth. He built up his martial arts skills and portrayed Loki in an astounding manner, changing himself from a polite, lovely British man to evil, manipulating and controlling Loki of Asguard. His greatest scenes in the films include his scene with Black Widow in which he calls her a “Mewling Quim,” where Hulk smashes him into the ground, and his grand entrance onto the scene in Avengers Assemble. But it’s not just his role in the films as Loki that made him great. He did also turn up to Comic Con in 2013 fully dressed and in the role of Loki, one of the greatest appearances by a guest at Comic Con of all time. By shouting “Say my name!” he made the whole crowd chant, and just the simple movement of putting his fingers on his lips caused a deadly silence to ensue the masses. He also appeared as Loki in a hilarious spoof advert for Comedy Central where he discussed with children who was better, Thor or Loki?
And then, again, we return to his ability to entice the public. Whether that’s through his amazing impressions, his work for charities such as UNICEF, his slumber party with MTV’s Josh Horowitz or his serious dancing skills, it is impossible for the public to not love him. Besides, have you seen the new Jaguar advert? Blimey.
