It’s a nice day for a white wedding, isn’t it? After all, if you are at an age like me, all of your friends are growing up and getting hitched. There isn’t a day that goes by when you aren’t weeping into your sweats as another Save The Date card rolls through your letterbox and earlier you were getting excited that you hadn’t entirely finished the bacon, crying real tears of joy. Erm, I digress. It seems everyone and their wives are getting married including Josh Gad and Kaley Cuoco who play the betrothed couple in this week’s The Wedding Ringer.
So to celebrate the release, let’s have a look at some of the greatest movies that revolve around weddings and I’ll get back to crying happily about bacon.
Confetti
It’s not the most superb wedding film in the world but it is still greatly done in its own way. Especially due to the acting. With the aforementioned Colman, Robert Webb, Jessica Stevenson, Martin Freeman and Jason Watkins romping around in many hilarious situations makes the film delightfully humanistic and witty.
Corpse Bride
What’s great about The Corpse Bride is the contrast between the greyed mortal world and vibrant underbelly full of unique dead characters. There is also amazing voice work from Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Christopher Lee and Emily Watson plus stellar original music from Danny Elfman. It's also a great moral lesson on why you should't place rings on random objects. (You can take that however way you want).
Father of the Bride
A tender and hilarious look at the dynamics of family, as well as having to let your children grow into adults and make their own decision, Steve Martin really captures that parental sense of letting go. With more outrageously funny moments, and a sterling sequel, Father of the Bride is sweet natured and held together by Martin’s amazing performance.
The Philadelphia Story
Also starring Jimmy Stewart and Carey Grant, The Philadelphia Story is often regaled as one of the best romantic comedies of all time – even inspiring the musical High Society. Each camera a shot is wielded with perfection whilst the script is on point, enhanced by the actors hitting their marks every time.
Four Weddings And A Funeral
There is much love, cheer and light-heartedness that was enhanced by this very uproarious humour that has us tickled. Always enjoyable with the most incredible acting at the heart of it, it has to be noted that the most memorable scene would be the heart breaking funeral.
