With the release of Nick Cave's fantastic semi-documentary 20,000 Days on Earth, I decided to look into other musicians who have taken on film roles. Of course there are some terrible ones: Madonna, Prince, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris – who do they think they are ruining our eyes as well as our eyes?! But there's also some very good musicians turned actors and I look at the best performances.

But there's also some very good musicians turned actors and I look at the best performances. by Cookie N Screen Let's get something out of the way; I feel bad being overly critical of this film. I feel bad, not because my lady parts are awash with McAvoy love or because I have a penchant for the titular song from The Beatles, but because if I had seen the Him & Her separate versions of this story - exactly how the team behind the film has wanted it to be - I'd probably enjoy it a lot more than I did. There is an ache here that, knowing audience predilections for having a lack of a attention span, writer/director Ned Benson had his artistic tongue cut short by distribution. Unfortunately, that meant sandwiching two films into one and, somewhere along the line, the essence seems to have been lost. by Paul Costello We here at I’m With Geek are very familiar with the work of Simon Horrocks. His 2012 surrealist psychological horror film Third Contact was a previously featured Must See Movie, and it subsequently become one of our own Cookie N Screen’s favourites of the year. And now the man behind it all is back with a new story to tell, and more importantly a new way of telling it. His latest is to be an sf mystery thriller that goes by the name of Kosmos and, like its predecessor, it looks to follow someone of science, of healing, into some dark territory for the sake of another person. Only this time, the stakes appear much closer to home. by Graham Osborne Testament of Youth is an adaptation of the memoirs of the same name by Vera Brittain. The book has been cited as one of the most descriptive of the impact of the First World War with regard to women. The film was directed by James Kent, a veteran of TV, who has previously worked on The White Queen and The Thirteenth Tale for the BBC, with Testament of Youth as his first feature film. by Jo Johnstone Calling all Beetlejuice fans..... Are you drawn to the mysterious and spooky? Do your living peers ignore the strange and unusual while you, yourself, are strange and unusual? Then do we have a treat for you. Larry Wilson, writer of The Addams Family and co-writer of Beetlejuice, has created a new web-series inspired by Cinderella but with a very modern twist. by Graham Osborne Casa Grande is a film about class division and coming of age. Shown at the BFI London Film Festival, the film was directed by Fellipe Barbosa and recounts, in semi-autobiographical fashion, a part of his life. The film was first written in 2006, alongside the introduction of the quota system for education in Brazil. It then went to the 2008 Sundance Screenwriter’s and Director’s Lab where it won the Annenburg Grant and ended up being a finalist for the Sundance/NHK Award. Barbosa’s film is a wonderful social commentary on Brazil’s class system told through the eyes of the teenage son of a wealthy family. by Gemma Williams November. As soon as you read that word, I know exactly what pops in to your mind. You see, it’s exactly what is going on in all of our minds. In November, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will be released! But what about the premiere and the actors you say? Well, let me tell you … The well-known and beloved Lionsgate has made plans to open the film in the UK, Asia and North America. The World Premiere will take place in London on November 10th; that’s 11 days before its theatrical release! Many of the favourite cast members will be on a world tour to meet and greet some of their fans at the premieres and to help advertise the blockbuster film, not that advertising is an issue for such a phenomenal series with a large and loyal fanbase. These actors include: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin and Liam Hemsworth, as well as the Director, Francis Lawrence, and Producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik. Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Natalir Dormer, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland will make an appearance at the world premiere too, as well as those mentioned above. So, I know what you’re thinking now. Who do I have to kill to get to the premiere? Well I hope you’re not thinking that because the only ticket you’ll be winning is a one way ticket to prison and don’t collect your money if you pass Go! On a more serious note, if you’re in the U.S. you have the opportunity to buy tickets on Fandango during the first day of advance sales (October 29th), you will be entered to win a trip to the premiere! May the odds be ever in your favour. |
