It is, as you may have noticed, awards season and the Producers Guild of America is one of the various organisations that have annual ceremonies set to celebrate and reward great tradecraft in the business of film and television. Producers often get somewhat overlook as to their contributions to the finished works they help make since it’s so rarely understood just what exactly it is they do. Titles like Director and Writer and Actor are easy to understand because you can (generally) easily identify exactly what each person contributes. Producers tend to be a bit more vaguely defined in such terms, so their contributions are (again, generally) equally vague.

Why are our lives built around so much hate? We all say things like ‘Oh I hate this so much’, but why do we say that? Why do we feel the need to hate anything? Do we use that word to make our anger known? Do we do it just for shock value? Or are just we plain ignorant? There are many schools of thought on why we hate and how it spirals out of something so little, but the real question is what can we learn from our past mistakes when dealing with hate? by Cookie N Screen It’s become a bit of a habit. You sit inside a cinema that is packed with other faces starring up on the screen. You react, they react. But are you reacting like everyone else? There are times where you are completely lost, bewildered, confuddled and quite frankly, bored. But as your look around at your peers, they are laughing and gasping, absorbed in whatever movie you are watching. Yes, this habit is one I can’t shake off. by Jo Johnstone To continue with this years awards last night saw the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) ceremony take place. The awards, which began in 1995 honours actors for both comedy and dramatic performances across film and primetime television. This year marked the 20th annual SAG Awards. The night kicked off with the film awards. By Graham Osborne This film is three hours long. It seems important to get that out the way as early as possible. It’s not a bad film, rather enjoyable in fact. But the length makes it very hard to sit through. The Wolf of Wall Street is based on the life of Jordan Belfort and his making money through the stock market. The film also covers his marriage, extra-marital affairs and enough drugs to rival Scarface. by Paul Costello Let me tell you about a man. An actor. One who should, on some level, actually be the envy of every other actor. You may not instantly recall his name, but you should certainly recognise the very distinctive face. His very high hairline, his rather soft facial features, and his big, incredibly expressive eyes. This man’s name is John Cazale and he has the distinction of being the actor with a literally perfect filmography. by Robbie Jones On the 17th January 1962, one of the funniest men in show business was brought into the world. James Eugene Carrey, or better known as Jim Carrey, is incredibly famous for his roles in hit comedies such as Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and Bruce Almighty, in which he brings these hilarious, colourful characters to life. And let’s not forget that he’s very good as a serious actor too, giving Oscar worthy performances in The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Now, celebrity birthdays don’t mean a lot to most people; someone famous got a year older, big woop. But I needed to take the chance to celebrate Mr. Carrey’s birthday as he means a lot more to me than you’d think. To put it simply, Jim Carrey is the reason I love film. |
