It seems Halloween has started early this year, and that’s all thanks to J. K. Rowling. Announced on the morning of October 24th on Pottermore, it was confirmed to fans that Rowling would be releasing a new story about a certain baddie from the hit series. by Hayley Charlesworth A very disturbing article appeared in The Guardian quite recently, detailing the experience of the author Kathleen Hale and a one-star review on Goodreads. Said review led Hale down a path of paranoia, obsession and stalking, until she undoubtedly crossed a line that no author should in terms of interacting with their fans. As writers, authors are constantly subjected to criticism, even if some of it is perhaps unwarranted (for example, giving a one-star review to a book you haven’t read, which is a sadly common practice on Goodreads.) As reviewers, we are open to backlash from authors and fans of said authors. But where does one draw the line? By Hayley Charlesworth Anne Rice fans rejoice! Returning from his grave once again is none other than the legendary vampire Lestat, made famous in The Vampire Chronicles and by a wonderfully unhinged performance by Tom Cruise in Interview With The Vampire. In these exclusive clips, we get our first look at the upcoming novel, Prince Lestat. So what can we expect? By Gemma Williams October 12th - 18th is Teen Read Week! We're currently in the middle of it but are you celebrating it? There are a few reasons as to why you should, one of these reasons being that the ambassador, whom I'm sure many of you will recognise, has recorded an introduction to tell you why this initiative is so important. By Laura W Could it be that Harry Potter is, quite possibly, coming back? Not quite, but J. K. Rowling certainly knows how to make us think as much. Last week, J. K. sent out a mysterious tweet, which consisted of “Cry, foe! Run amok! Fa awry! My wand won’t tolerate this nonsense.” So what exactly did this all mean? By Charlotte Dibley Best known for writing thrillers involving fictional forensic psychologist Alex Cross, American author James Patterson has experienced monumental success since publishing his first book in 1976. Decades and millions of book sales later, it is Patterson’s philanthropy which is taking centre stage. By Gemma Williams I am not a huge fan of Autobiographical books. I have only ever read one in my entire life and whereas it was entertaining enough, I still prefer to live my world of fantasy. There is one autobiography, however, that I just absolutely must get my hands on and I'm sure many of you will agree, especially after watching the unique book trailer to advertise it. Neil Patrick Harris is releasing an autobiography, but it's not like any you've ever read before... By Georgia Thompson Great news for Stephen Fry fans everywhere – you can stop marking off the calendar, the wait is almost over. The third volume of his memoirs will be available on 25th September in both book and audiobook form, following Moab is my Washpot and The Fry Chronicles. Cruelly teasered in the final pages of his second autobiography, More Fool Me will pick up where The Fry Chronicles left off – after his rise to fame with fellow Cambridge Footlights alumni Hugh Laurie and Emma Thompson, and the beginning of his descent in to the murky underworld of celebrity life. By Agnieszka Ramian Sylvia Day, a prolific author standing behind numerous best-selling titles and over twenty award winning novels, definitely is not sitting around. Readers, get ready for a treat. This enthusiastic news regarding another instalment of Day’s highly popular series – Crossfire, cannot be ignored. It is coming together, it is almost here, it is worth the wait and soon, it will land on the bookshelves all over the UK and Commonwealth under the auspices of Penguin UK. With the promising title of the forthcoming novel revealed, known as CAPTIVATED BY YOU, a great deal of erotica executed with class, emotional journey and pages dripping with complicated desire are coming our way. by Hayley Charlesworth Geeks everywhere have long wished for a silver screen or TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's classic apocalyptic comedy, Good Omens. Now, it seems their prayers are answered. Well, sort of. For while we won't see Good Omens on screens any time soon, a new adaptation has been announced for Radio 4. And the cast list is incredible. |
