Interview: Emma Taylor on Book Art

8/15/2014

The debate that was successfully started HERE not long ago, will be seeing its continuation. Not only will we present more findings and, let’s be honest,  thoughts and feelings that pure-blood bookworms are made of, but on top of that a particular artist, especially skilled in cutting through books’ pages, will be introduced. You may find it harder to have concerns when it is not an anonymous individual, but a specific person, revealing herself as the one responsible for making such exciting and extraordinary art.

If we dig deeper, there seem to be pros mostly. The key to understanding and fully appreciating this creative concept is to let go of the idea that this is just a book and there is only one proper way of using it. There used to be, but now it also becomes a material that an artist such as Emma Taylor can use to create some really impressive items.

Interview: Rachel Gold

3/29/2014

Today marks a special date in history.

As many of you will know, today is the first day a same-sex couple can legally marry in England and Wales. Campaigns for this right for equality have been active since the legislation to allow same-sex marriages in England and Wales was passed by Parliament in July 2013, and then coming into force on 13th March 2014. Olivia Grey decided to mark this pioneering day by celebrating a story that also bypassed the ‘norms’ of society, which helps to bring our world up to date with the ever-changing nature we hold together as humankind.

We featured this story in our LGBT month in February and because it was such a success with our readership due to a powerfully relatable story, IWG interviewed Rachel Gold, author of the pioneering novel Being Emily. A story which is the first of its kind with a transsexual girl giving it its voice, describing her struggles in raw detail with inequality in a society that is behind with the times.

[*Editor Note: There is a glossary at the end for LGBT jargon].

Interview: Master of Horror - Darren Shan

3/24/2014

Best Seller, Master of Horror, Darren Shan, has kindly agreed to an interview with I'm With Geek and provided some thoughtful and interesting answers, after he was covered for a well deserved St Patrick's Day author profile. Though a best seller, many, including myself, still believe him to be massively under rated.

He has a large fan base for his vampire books, The Darren Shan Saga; his Demonata Series; his most recent Zom-B books, and many others. With the first two vampire books being turned into a film, and with the ability to release a book every three months, his loyal fans can be found everywhere, devouring the latest release. It's so refreshing for an author to be able to reliably release so many good quality novels in such a short space of time. He is an inspiration to many, and now, we get a glimpse into his life.
