It really is not possible to list them all. For real book enthusiasts the good news is that literary events take place all year round and there is something waiting practically around every corner. It is our task to try to narrow this list down and, perhaps, suggest the dates that eager readers definitely ought to put down in their calendars. There are popular festivals of international fame that gather the best-selling authors and those cosy ones, organized in a small-town style or appealing only to selected audience, connoisseurs of specific genre. Some of them will garner international recognition and applause, work in favour of mass entertainment, worldwide merchandise and sales on a big scale, while other ones have a completely different agenda, be it paying a tribute to an author or promoting a cause targeted at a particular social matter/group. Either way, it is books that remain a reason for crowds to gather and celebrate.

Interview: Emma Taylor on Book Art

8/15/2014

The debate that was successfully started HERE not long ago, will be seeing its continuation. Not only will we present more findings and, let’s be honest,  thoughts and feelings that pure-blood bookworms are made of, but on top of that a particular artist, especially skilled in cutting through books’ pages, will be introduced. You may find it harder to have concerns when it is not an anonymous individual, but a specific person, revealing herself as the one responsible for making such exciting and extraordinary art.

If we dig deeper, there seem to be pros mostly. The key to understanding and fully appreciating this creative concept is to let go of the idea that this is just a book and there is only one proper way of using it. There used to be, but now it also becomes a material that an artist such as Emma Taylor can use to create some really impressive items.

Many hearts stopped after a beloved author announced that he no longer was able to attend an upcoming The Discworld Convention 2014  (jump to this news) where he was meant to be a guest of honour. It is completely understandable that dedicated fans were fearing the worst with the reason for cancellation given being a poor health condition. Even though taking a break was necessary in this case, Sir Terry Pratchett is not quite ready to leave the stage yet and we will be hearing about him a lot this year.

Terry Pratchett is not slowing down, and he makes sure that his publishers will have something to do. This year readers will be treated with a few publications coming out practically one after another. There is a lot of excitement to handle.

Review: Sacred Scars

7/31/2014

It has been a while since we have looked at Skin Hunger, part I of the Resurrection of Magic series by award-winning author Kathleen Duey. Now the time has come to present our thoughts on the second instalment of the dark and powerful  trilogy: Sacred Scars (2009). Being a tendency observed at the time with few-volume series, the change of moods and shift of attitudes is very likely to occur among the readers who pick up this title. The story gets harsher, perhaps in an attempt to push the boundaries of what is acceptable in Young Adult genre. As much as it stands a chance of earning older readers’ applause, are the younger ones still being minded enough?
