Over here in this cosy little corner of I’m With Geek, it’s safe to say that we kind of have a thing for books. I know, it’s mind-blowing and you never would have guessed it. Among all us bookworms, there is this unspoken debate that always has a presence in a book related conversation and it just takes one little comment to pull the trigger and set off the biggest literary bomb. What debate is this? Printed books versus e-books.

Printed books versus e-books. by Ellie Bowker YouTube is the biggest video sharing website to date that attracts more than 1 billion viewers a month streaming around 6 billion hours of video. When the view records for some of YouTube’s top 100 channels have grown 80% in the past year, it’s no surprise that most teens are turning off the Hollywood blockbusters and turning on a YouTube video of your Average Joe vlogging (video blogging) about their day. The success of these YouTube personalities continues to grow every single day and some of our beloved YouTubers have spread themselves to different media which brings me to my point; YouTubers writing books. By Ellie Bowker It always gets very exciting when it’s announced that a book is going to be turned in to a film. There’s so much anticipation and excitement and anxiety and so many other feelings. You need to keep up to date with casting, filming locations, which parts of the book are going to be included and which parts are not. Fast forward and teaser trailers are being released, film posters are going up left, right and centre and it’s all very exciting. Here are some of the most anticipated book to film adaptations that you will most definitely want to read first. By Laura W Yes, Matilda has already been made into a film, as well as a hit (and extremely faithful) musical. However, there is talk of re-doing the famous Roald Dahl novel, originally published in 1988. This time, it would be an adaptation of the musical, which is one of the most faithful adaptations of a book to ever surface. The book was illustrated by famed illustrator, Quentin Blake and has since become one of Roald Dahl's most famous works. by Irene Kovalyova Here is part two of the One Hit Wonders series, where we will be looking at authors who are most well known for one piece of written work, or have only produced one renowned novel. by Laura W It’s back. This time, it’s not so intense. I realized several things over my time off from this project. I also realized, that I never fully focused in my previous update, of what I actually learned from the project. So here’s another update. by Emma Raymond Many critics have commented on the ridiculousness of Peter Jackson’s decision to divide The Hobbit, a slight book of around 300 pages, into three long films. But this choice is merely the tip of an iceberg that is the trilogy’s fundamental and unforgivable flaws. There are also scenes, plot lines and characters which simply don’t belong in the film. By Agnieszka Ramian The debate that was successfully started HERE not long ago, will be seeing its continuation. Not only will we present more findings and, let’s be honest, thoughts and feelings that pure-blood bookworms are made of, but on top of that a particular artist, especially skilled in cutting through books’ pages, will be introduced. You may find it harder to have concerns when it is not an anonymous individual, but a specific person, revealing herself as the one responsible for making such exciting and extraordinary art. If we dig deeper, there seem to be pros mostly. The key to understanding and fully appreciating this creative concept is to let go of the idea that this is just a book and there is only one proper way of using it. There used to be, but now it also becomes a material that an artist such as Emma Taylor can use to create some really impressive items. By Ellie Bowker After reading last week’s article on Book Reading Etiquette, I thought I would follow on from that with some “Bookworm Problems”. Bookworms face a vast array of problems on a daily basis because of their beloved books. Whether it’s reading, buying, lending or discussing your favourite books, there are always dilemmas that seem to crop up that can be fatal for hard core bookworms. by Hayley Charlesworth The whole of the I'm With Geek team are shocked and saddened by the death of Robin Williams, a true legend of Hollywood, comedy, and an all round decent bloke. While the film section may be dedicating a week to Robin's memory, he's touched the lives of so many people around the world, including the Book Team. And so what better way to honour him than to look at the source materials so some of his fantastic oeuvre. |
