Whether you are a fan of vampire literature or not, you can’t deny that the House of Night novels by P.C and Kristin Cast certainly rock the boat a little bit when it comes to ‘traditional’ relationships.

In young adult literature, It is so important that a message is heard, whatever that message may be, and The House of Night novels certainly seem to say that the message of ‘being homosexual is okay’ really is just that!

The House of Night Series by P.C and Kristen Cast are vampire themed books told from the point of view of young teenage Zoey Redbird, a vampire fledgling who deals with going through the Change, in the hopes of becoming a fully grown vampire and surviving the Change itself, which could be fatal.

From the very beginning of the House of Night series there has been homosexual themes. And now that the series has grown as the years have progressed, there have at least been four characters in the ensemble cast of personalities in these novels which have been homosexually inclined. The first couple was one of Zoey’s best friends, Damien Maslin (who has always been very comfortable with his sexuality and very proud) and his boyfriend/partner, Jack Twist (also proud of his sexuality and is the most innocent of Zoey’s friends).

Unfortunately without going into too much detail, things did not go as planned for Damien and Jack, and their relationship was cut short after a string of tragic events that ended in nothing but fatality, however, the House of Night fans still have hope that the two will be reunited one day in the future.

Whilst the fans wait on one of their favourite couples, P.C and Kristin Cast have given their readers some new hope and a new blossoming relationship to sink their fangs into!

In the latest novel, Revealed, it became known that Shaylin (a red vampire fledgling that has been given the gift of ‘True Sight’ by the Goddess in the novels, Nyx) and Nicole (Also a red vampire fledgling who has chosen light over darkness) could be a potential new homosexual couple within the series, as in one of the final moments and scenes of the novel, when Shaylin is ashamed of her actions in the previous chapters and is miserable and alone, finds comfort in Nicole, leading up to the pair eventually kissing.

Although nothing has been set in stone, the fans of the series have been very pleased with this plot-line and hope that there isn’t too much dark times ahead for the couple.

With the last House of Night book, Redeemed, said to be released in October of this year, the I’m With Geek Books Team can’t wait to see what the authors of this series have in store for the grand finale! Will Nicole and Shaylin become a couple? And if they do, will they survive the next action-packed, emotional rollercoaster that is the final book? We will just have to wait and see!
