Harry Potter lives! Or to be more accurate, his universe continues to grow. J. K. Rowling is continuing to build her Potter universe, filling in the blanks of the history of the Quidditch World Cup on Pottermore.
The first of a two-part series covers the most famous and terrifying parts of the Quidditch tournaments you’ll be familiar with from her Harry Potter series. This glimpse of Potter history is a reward for the fans who heeded her call to support Scotland in the Six Nations rugby tournament. Ireland may have won, but so did Potter fans who retweeted #wizard4Scotlandrugbyteam at her urging. Rowling insists that wizards worldwide support the Scotland team, and who is going to argue with that?
On Pottermore she covered topics like the 19-volume Quidditch rulebook and the rules governing body modification for referees. The Quidditch Cup dates back to 1473, and is held every four years. She elaborated on such things like the problems for host nations holding the cup, and the craziest tournaments, including one you’ll remember from the Goblet of Fire. But, no wizard seems to remember the 1877 cup. It’s still being investigated, in fact.
Part One of this intriguing series comes in at 1,700 words and Part Two will be published on Friday, 21 March.
