Happy Canada Day! When it’s announced that a person, or several people, are receiving the Order of Canada, it’s basically a very exciting time here in Ottawa, and all throughout Canada. This year’s recipients range from a comedian to a spaceman. Amongst the recipients this year is Guy Gavriel Kay, author of numerous novels, which have sold over two million copies and have been translated into 22 languages.
His first fantasy novel, The Summer Tree, was published in 1984. It was the first book in The Fionavar Tapestry trilogy. Other works of Guy’s include The Lions of Al-Rassan, Beyond This Dark House, Ysabel, Under Heaven and The Last Light of the Sun.
Guy has been appointed to the Order of Canada this year. He was included for his contributions to styles of fiction as an internationally recognized author. Other recipients for this year include comedian Rick Mercer, now world famous Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield (best known for his version of David Bowie’s Space Odyssey, sang while Chris was in space), David Cronenberg, and Shirley Marie Tilghman.
