Monty Python has conquered many feats in comedy. They have a collection of incredible films that make us titter, a television series of oddball yet intelligent sketches, they have damn catchy songs and they took to the stage for a series of live shows. However, while they may have toe tapped across the wooden footsteps of the stage before, they never really launched into proper theatrical domination until 2004 when Eric Idle (the musical maestro of Monty Python) decided to create Spamalot. And thus, the Lord decreed that there was nothing Monty Python couldn’t do and blessed the world with ten years of Spamalot. And it was good.

In fact, we’ve originated, or even helped originate, some amazing productions, as well as produced some stellar talent for the stage. Let’s have a look at some of these outstanding actors. by Laura Weaver The world’s highest grossing animated film of all time is heading to the Great White Way (no pun intended). Disney’s goliath, Frozen, has proved so popular, that it’s being turned into a Broadway Musical! After winning a Golden Globe and two Oscars, Walt Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger announced that the show will eventually hit Broadway, though he added that they are not focused on speed, but quality. If it takes a little longer for the show to develop, so be it. by Laura Weaver The 68th Annual Tony Awards took place on Sunday 8th with some definite standout moments, and with Hugh Jackman hosting the ceremonies for the fourth time, we were in for some entertaining times. While the opening number was fun, many were hoping this year’s opening might be bigger, so much bigger (credit if you get the reference!). There was also criticism on how Hugh hardly had any screen time, despite being the host. However, an award record was set, when Audra McDonald won her SIXTH Tony Award! And fun was still on the menu. by Laura Weaver In honour of Father’s Day, we’re looking at some of the worst fathers that have ever graced the stage. Now, don’t fret, there are some brilliant ones, but here are some of the nasty ones. by Laura Weaver It’s a huge weekend for In The Wings as today marks the 68th Annual Tony Awards, hosted by Hugh Jackman. Hugh has become well known in the theatre world, being a two time Tony winner and three time (soon to be four) Tony Host. Hugh started performing on the stage at a young age and has not only established a film career for himself, but a well-respected stage career as well. However, Hugh is not the only film actor who is a theatre pro. by Laura W It’s Tony Week and the theatre fans are anxiously holding their breaths, as this is our biggest night. It’s the be all and end all. Forget the Oscars, forget the Grammy’s – for us, this is it. This is the American Theatre Wing’s Tony’s. The proper name of a Tony is the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre, and the awards recognize achievement in live Broadway Theatre. The ceremony always takes place in New York City, home of the Great White Way. Who exactly has won Tony’s in the past? Well, we’ve got a Godfather, the Black Widow, a psychic medium and an 80’s popstar. Let’s have a look at some people you may not know are Tony Winners. by Laura Weaver The show East is East is being revived and this time, it’s sort of special. The author of the play, Ayub Khan Din is starring in it. The play is the second in Jamie Lloyd’s Trafalgar Transformed Season following Richard III, starring Martin Freeman. by Laura Weaver It wouldn’t be an award ceremony without some sort of controversy, and the Tony’s are no exception to that. With the 2014 awards fast approaching, let’s have a look at two of the most famous Tony controversies. by Laura Weaver The casting for Jamie Lloyd’s new production of Richard III has finally been announced, with several experienced thespians joining Martin Freeman (The Hobbit trilogy, Sherlock, Fargo). This will be Jamie Lloyd’s second Trafalgar Transformed Season with Richard III as the opening production. General tickets go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 13th May, and are expected to go quite quickly, due to Freeman’s rising popularity. |
