About two weeks ago, we checked out the sexiest male geeks. With that list, there is no denying that geeks have become the hottest thing on planet Earth. More and more characters keep coming out the woodwork to define what is attractive and what isn’t. Trust me, the minute that we moved onto women, the IWG Team gave so many options it was hard to decide on this top ten. So while we discuss about expanding, here is the list of sexiest geek characters who are not only smart, intelligent and strong but are incredible awesome at doing so.
Usually when you watch Criminal Minds you come for the hottie, Derek Morgan and Spencer Reid’s brain. Most of the time, you stay for Garcia and her brilliant quips. Penelope Garcia is the hacking genius behind the whole FBI team. Although she is rarely in the field, she sits behind the desk using her technical knowhow to overcome the secrets that killers and their families are keeping. Garcia, played by Kirsten Vangsness, is a hilarious character who's smart and has excellent platonic rapport with Morgan. If you don’t love Garcia, you are watching a different show...
When Charlie was first introduced to the Supernatural boys, there was no denying that a lot of girls and fans around the world pointed at their television going “that’s me.” She's highly intelligent and yet again, a super hacker, who is put under fire when she discovers her boss is actually a demon. Gaining the respect of the Winchester brothers and also helping them defeat the monsters, Charlie is addicted to gaming, fantasy, computers and more. With her wonderful red hair and smart funny moments, Charlie is an unforgettable character.
Uhura gets a lot of stick, especially the rebooted version of Star Trek. I’m here to talk about both. In the original series, Nichelle Nichols played Nyota Uhura alongside Shatner’s Kirk and Nimoy’s Spock. Against the time, Uhura was perceived as a role model as the first black woman to be portrayed as not part of 'the help', but independent strong and smart. Uhura and Kirk also shared the first interracial kiss. Cited as many actresses idol, Uhura is a brilliant vibrant woman who paved the way for many. In JJ Abrams reboot, Zoe Saldana plays Uhura. While many believe that she has boiled down to a short skirt wearing, Vulcan sexing and tantrum throwing woman, Saldana plays a ridiculous great character. Despite the need to pop her in underwear or short skirts, Uhura is the backbone of the Enterprise and coaxes the story along, doing what the men can’t and defying her gender.
People always boil down The Black Widow to one thing, her cat suit. And while Scarlett Johansson wears it exceedingly well, with no shortage of men salivating over her, Natasha Romanoff is so much more, making her even more attractive. The greatest with about Romanoff is that she is never week. She spars off against and with men at an equal level. When men portray her as weak or incapable because she is a woman, she doesn’t fight. What she does do instead is use that wrong perception against them. Gaining secrets from The God of Mischief by pretending to cry meant that Romanoff did one thing, get information from him the others couldn’t. In five minutes she'll take control of the situation and have your neck breaking between her thighs. Exciting, thrilling and stunning.
There are many depictions of Irene Adler. In the books, Adler is a resourceful woman who piques Sherlock’s interest because she can fend for herself. While there are talks of romance, only few adaptations explore this. In recent days, Adler is perhaps the best woman on the job. Dominatrix or support for Holmes, Adler uses her femininity and sex to turn games upon everyone, gaining secrets to get her to the top. Played by Rachel McAdams in the movies, Natalie Dormar in Elementary and Lara Pulver in the BBC's Sherlock, each Adler has as spark of interest and always takes control of the situation; managing to shake Sherlock to his core. Not many women can do that, can they?
Zoe Washburne, River Tamm, Inara Serra and Kaywinnet Lee Frye all have something in common; they are the women of Firefly. Not wanting one to be above the other, they are always here because frankly, not only are they sexy as hell but they are always in control of the situation. Played effectively by some beautiful women, the women of Firefly are smart, courageous, strong and funny. They really show the men up here and are ridiculously in control of the situation. The Firefly Females are one team not to mess with as they defend their ship and their ship mates with every ounce of their soul. Women that you could look up too and admire, this collection are perhaps the best thing about Firefly.
I swear to Sherlock himself if anyone brings up the reasons why Elementary is bad (it isn’t, by the way) and one of them is that Watson is now a woman, then you may proceed to get off my planet. Joan is hired to be Sherlocks' sober companion in perhaps the most humanistic portrayal of the super sleuth in the world. Played by Lucy Lui, Joan Watson is still a wickedly smart friend of Sherlocks, able to spar wonderfully with him and has gusto and heart. The fact that Watson now has female anatomy shouldn’t matter. Lucy Lui plays an incredible Watson. That’s all you need to know, she is impressively so.
There is no denying that Joss Whedon is one of the best writers ever. As a male, being able to write females without making them weak or stereotyping them, giving them a platform to fight, is an incredible feat. This is perfectly displayed in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Whedon wrote some really powerful female leads including Buffy herself who is laden with not only enormous strength, but great heart. Her best friend Willow is intelligent and the fact that she is gay isn’t the sole focus of her character. She initiates great power. And Faith is a complex anti-hero. Even the side female characters are given roles that are three dimensional.
Though there's no shortage of beautiful, tough women in the George R. R. Martin's fantasy epic Game of Thrones, the Dragon Born turned savage queen, and arguable the true ruler of Westeros, Daenerys Targaryen outstrips (sometimes literally) her competitors. Not only is Daenerys, played beautifully by Emilia Clarke, the most interesting character from the whole show, but shows so much development throughout the three series. We're first introduced to a scared, exploited girl, being sold into a seemingly loveless marriage to benefit her brothers war effort. Flash forward, the Khaleesi of the Dothraki now commands an army and thunders dangerously closer to Westeros, accompanied by her DRAGONS!
Seriously, how can we choose between Amy Pond (the legs herself!), Rose Tyler or Peri? When you think of gorgeous, dependable sci-fi women, you can guarantee one or more of the Doctor's faithful companions will spring to mind. Whether you're fond of the resourceful, sassy Dr. River Song, her mother, the Girl Who Waited, or the woman the Doctor sacrificed himself to save, or indeed, the classic, iconic mini-skirt wearing Jo Grant, the Doctor Who girls have got it covered.
Gone have the days of the stereotypically weak female who screams for the Doctor's help. Since the show's return, we've seen a whole host of strong, powerful equals to the Doctor, able to step in and save the day as much as the Time Lord himself. Rose rescued the damaged hero from himself, Martha saved the world from slavery, Donna defended the whole of reality, Amy protected him from loneliness and Clara was born to save his life. And lets not even start on that sexy as hell wife of his!
The Doctor is one luck man!
