The Best 'Last Supper' imitations!

4/20/2014

We all know the classic image of the last supper, painted beautifully by Leonardo da Vinci in the late 15th Century, designed to portray the last supper between Jesus Christ and his disciples before he was crucified on what we now celebrate as Easter. Specifically, the image portrays the moment Jesus announces that one of the diners will betray him. We all know the story, including, it would seem, a number of cheeky film makers, directors and animators who have seen fit to imitate the classic image with their own characters. Whether it's a symbolic/subversive use of the image, or an obvious mockery, here are some of the best 'Last Supper' imitations we've seen. Call them humorous or blasphemous, we love them all the same!

Picture
Battlestar Galactica - Caprica 6, the ghostly apparition shown only to God's emissary Gaius Baltar.
Picture
The Expendables 2 - Good ol' Sly Stallone with his dual pistols bringing the gang of holy warriors together for a second outing!
Picture
Lost - The Legendary John Locke takes centre stage in this fantastic promo poster foreshadowing the revelations ahead...
Picture
House M.D - Performing miracle cures and preaching his own view of the world... it makes sense that the marvellous, egocentric, arse-hole doctor take centre stage. Notice Foreman in the Judas role...
Picture
The Sopranos - Tony, the true head of the family.
Picture
The Simpsons  - Need we say more?
Picture
Star Wars - While not an official image, this beautiful artwork (if you know who made it, get in touch) portrays the best of the Star Wars roster in the iconic image. Vader (Anakin; the chosen one... apparently) and Luke take centre stage here, bringing balance to the force.
Picture
Shameless - A personal favourite and the best subversion of the image i've seen as the alcoholic, deadbeat father Frank takes his place at the centre of the table, pledging to finally have the slip. Interestingly, Frank spends the entire series offering his own guidance and philosophy of life, just like the main man himself... kind of.
We're sure we've missed some, so if you have any you wanna share, please leave them in the comments below!

Happy Zombie Jesus Weekend!
