Like many other readers and nineties children I grew up through the craze of Pokémon. There are classic games, and then there are games which are actually worth shelling out cash on a new console just to be able to play. Pokémon was an instant hit, a true classic and for me that all started with Pokémon Blue.

These days there aren’t a lot of ways to play these classics, I’m talking of course about the GameBoy Colour Pokémon games; Blue, Red, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Green etc. Many of the consoles needed to play them are broken or collectors’ items and that’s where this week’s Fun for Friday comes in… I am going to show you how to play all of your childhood favourite Pokémon games right now!

If you click the link above you will be taken to a page where you can launch the game, all it required is a Java plugin. Controls have been edited and these are explained on each game, for example the A and B buttons may be S and D on the keyboard.

One more element to this, some of these games have been hacked for extra entertainment. One I find particularly amusing is Pokémon Blue Team Rocket version. Where you play not as Ash, but as James, a Team Rocket wannabe who is given a Pokémon not from Oak, but from Giovanni, it is your intention to go about the world using Pokémon for evil and not for good! These hacks are simple enough to do, geeky people simply re-write the story. They are fun, but I find the genuine game more satisfying.
So on that, I bid you good luck in your endeavours! Your very own Pokémon Adventure is about to unfold. Good Luck, you gotta catch ‘em all!
