Today marks an anniversary of the invention that most of us (sadly) nowadays cannot live without. Think Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, that other one and then the one before that... Long, stressful hours of dialling up your modem to be replaced by equally infuriating WIFI connection, kids feeling punished by being told to leave the computer, go OUTSIDE and play, COD, FIFA, noobs and your mum telling you to get off the internet because she needs to use the phone. That's right folks, The World Wide Web is 25 today.
We all have smart phones, right? Whether iPhone, Samsung, HTC, that phone is constantly hooked up to 3/4G, giving you immediate access to weather, Whatsapp and Vine (!!). The iPhones main messaging system, iMessage even runs off 3G and WIFI access to work, a system totally reliant on the web, and that all started 25 years ago.
On March 12th, 1989, he put forth the proposal to make information sharing possible over computers. On December 25th 1990, the WWW finally went live and hasn't looked back since.
Why are we not praising this man and showing our devotion? Sod it. Who needs God when you have an entire YouTube directory dedicated to cats. Who needs The Almighty God when you have Google to search for all the fucked up things you're ever going to need in your life.
I'm sort of serious, we need a Berners-Lee religion with Lolcat idols and Cookies (never much liked the fish, bread and wine combination anyway).
So, I guess it's up to me to say; Happy Birthday World Wide Web, you damned overrated procrastination. We all love you to death. Peace.
