There are some film makers who have made their mark for being incredibly talented masters/mistresses of the screen. Other film-makers are notorious for their inexplicable success in spite of terrible examples of film making. George Lucas is an interesting mixture of both. On the one side, this is the man who gave the world the incredibly popular Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises that go beyond their film adaptations. On the other, he brought into the world the unpopular Star Wars prequel trilogies and Indiana Jones: The Crystal Skull which wasn’t a critical success to say the least. His talent is almost overshadowed by the amount of shudders uttering his name seems to bring, however the characters from the many films he’s produced, written and directed are arguably some of the most memorable and definitely something for cosplayers to take inspiration from.

Jareth The Goblin King
It feels almost unnecessary to explain why one should cosplay as this character. If you don’t know this character immediately watch Labyrinth. This characters look is odd yet sexy, quirky yet smoldering and irresistible. There’s a nice variety of costumes to choose from for this devious character.
Suggestion: If you are in any way able to sing like David Bowie, learn the songs from this film. It would be most impressive.

Han Solo in Carbonite
As I’ve already suggested Han Solo as a cosplay suggestion in a recent list (?) I wanted to up the ante with this idea. Why go for just standard Han Solo when you can cosplay as Han Solo in carbonite. Sounds preposterous? Admittedly it’s a bit of a silly idea but it would definitely be a challenge and an outfit that would spark some conversation and notice.
Suggestion: If you’re going around a convention, it may be worth making sure someone accompanies you to minimise the amount of people crashing.

Howard The Duck
Okay so this character may be from Howard the Duck which is considered one of the worst films ever but this would be a rather excellent cosplay challenge.
An actual duck, feathers and all, with a snappy outfit and a cigar in the mouth* may not have made a good movie but definitely would make a striking cosplay

Madmartigan
Let’s get rather obscure in the George Lucas-involved films with an eighties film called Willow. This character was played by Val Kilmer and his outfit definitely strikes an image of strength and valour.
This is definitely a cosplay for people who enjoy a bit of armour, obscure 80s films or knights in general.

Indiana & Professor Henry Jones tied to a chair
This is a bit more of an out-there cosplay idea but it’s something that would definitely be something incredibly different. A father and son bound together in a race for the Holy Grail in one of the best known film series of all times would definitely make a sight to behold if re-created in cosplay circumstances. With the right rope* and a sturdy chair, this would be a duo that would be fun for all to behold!
Suggestion: If the idea of being tied to another human being is unappealing, a dummy dressed in the clothes of whichever character you don’t cosplay as would be an interesting substitute.

Jabba The Hutt
This is a cosplay that hasn’t been done nearly as much as Leia or Han Solo but it’s definitely an outfit idea worth having a look into. You can spend the day lying across a dolly cart if you wish to really go for it with people carting you around. If you’re going to a convention alone you can always sit upon said dolly cart for photos or whenever you’re resting for the day.
Suggestion: Just because people are carting you around in a cart/trolley doesn’t mean they can’t cosplay too! They can take their pick from any of the patrons of the Cantina whether it’s a member of the band or a slave seeking to be free.

Stormtrooper
Okay so if I added every good character to cosplay from Star Wars it would take up the entire list so in the interest of fairness I’ve had to keep it to a minimum. I couldn’t let this list go without mentioning the stormtroopers as a cosplay idea. The nameless, faceless clones used as a means for the Emperor to take over the Galaxy and maintain Sith rule is a far more difficult outfit than it appears to put together but the results of labour would be worth the effort to run around forever seeking the droids that you are looking for.
Marion Ravenwood
Definitely a favourite among Indiana Jones fans, Marion Ravenwood is an excellent female character with brains and wit that makes her stand out from a lot of the female characters cast in action films at the time of Raiders Of The Lost Ark’s release. There’s quite a few outfit possibilities especially if you add her appearance in Indiana Jones The Dark Crystal to suit everybody whether you prefer trousers or skirts, knives* or a bottle of alcohol*.
Dr Jenning whilst possessed
Okay, so Dr Jenning from Howard the Duck may seem like an ordinary guy but the minute he becomes possessed by an alien being transported into our dimension accidentally and you’ve got yourself a unique cosplay opportunity. This is great for anyone who wants to have a go at having prosthetics on their face and would enjoy the challenge of the electric charges that surge from his body as the alien inside terrorises Cleveland, Ohio.
Mola Ram
Out of all the Indiana Jones characters created, this is a character I would love to see cosplayed. It’s visually striking, different and would definitely be a great challenge for those who enjoy scaring people. Whilst I definitely wouldn’t suggest trying to actually rip people’s hearts out, one can definitely get enough of a jump from people in just the appearance alone especially if you have a bloodied heart prop clutched in your hands.
Jar Jar Binks
Before everybody decides to scream in horror at this idea think about it very carefully. Cosplaying such a hated character might well be a very interesting move. One would be instantly recognised (which a lot of cosplayers seek) and there’d certainly be many interactions sparked by the sight of the outfit. It’s not the hardest of outfits to put together and the possibilities on how to achieve the skin of the Gungan is pretty open.
Warning: This cosplay attempt may not be the wisest idea in a very public arena. It may be worth reserving this for a more private audience.
