With all the excitement and run up to the new Star Wars films, not to mention that May the Fourth is upon us once again, I’m With Geek is all a buzz… Disney has taken on the new films, but how has it already incorporated this particular galaxy far, far away into its mega bucks world?
A homage to the greatest movie scenes of all time. This theme park attraction, which shows regularly throughout the day in the CinéMagique theatre, sees Martin Short and Julie Delpy travel through the world of cinema: western shoot outs, deep sea diving with Pinocchio, a custard pie fight with Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, and frantic dash through the Titanic.
After a close shave with Linda Blair from The Exorcist, George (played by Martin Short) falls through a door to find himself aboard the Death Star and is promptly dragged into hiding by a stormtrooper to avoid Darth Vader – yet…
“Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?”
“Ah, c’est moi”
His rescuer is in fact Marguerite (Julie Delpy) but they are forced to escape by swinging across the gap, recreating the famous scene in Star Wars – A New Hope. They then find themselves in the middle of a medieval battlefield. C’est la vie! A highly recommended show if you find yourself in Paris (Disneyland particularly…) mixing live actors, special effects and classic cinema magic.
The motion simulator ride, recreating a short trip in a shuttle in the specified galaxy far, far away has been at Disneyland since 1987 and was originally the first non-Disney franchise ride in the park. However now that Disney have acquired the rights to Star Wars, this ‘award’ is swept to the side…
Take a ride with a rebellious droid who decides a change of course past the Death Star, cruisers and into the battle zone is a great idea (it is). And on the extra bright side the queues are much better than say Aerosmith’s Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster, but they have recreated the shuttle boarding terminal anyway, complete with droids, flashing lights and R2D2 noises – we love them!
