It’s that time of the month on I’m With Geek where we bring you news of BAFTA’s Learning and Events programme. All year round, BAFTA provide opportunities for members of the public to attend classes, lectures, and screenings, designed to help those who want to either break into the industry, or are just interested in media production.
On 26th May, BAFTA is hosting a Games Showcase on episodic graphic adventure game Life is Strange. Publishers Square Enix and developers Dontnod will be discussing the game focussed on a photography student who discovers she has the ability to rewind time.
This month at the Brighton Festival, BAFTA will be focussing on the kids. First up on 9th May, CBeebies’ Cat Sandion and Ben Shires from Officially Amazing! will be hosting a showcase of the films, TV shows, games and websites nominated for the 2014 British Academy Children’s Awards. There’ll be clips, behind-the-scenes films and interviews for kids to feast their eyes on. Also on 9th May, Sandion and Shires will be hosting a TV Presenting Masterclass for children aged eight and over, giving unique and practical insights into the world of television presenting.
Thinking about developing your career in television? On 9th May BAFTA is hosting TV Forum: Generation Next. Aimed at those with six months’ to three years’ experience in non-scripted television, the day will include a variety of talks, career development panels, Q&As and show analysis. On 21st May, The Secret Life of an Indie will take place in London. A panel of TV programme makers will be discussing creative decisions, challenges and opportunities in the set-up, and how that feeds back into the growth of their independent production companies.
BAFTA are also finding time to squeeze in a TV Preview this month on 28th May. New sitcom Undercover is the story of Chris, a policeman undercover in an Armenian crime family. Set to air on Dave, the series is co-created and co-written by Andy Milligan (Ant and Dec’s full-time writer) and Sacha Alexander (The Gigolos), directed by Dave Lambert and stars Daniel Rigby, Sarah Alexander and Keith Allen.
Also, lest we forget, May is also the month when BAFTA honours the very best TV broadcast on British screens in 2014. Here at I’m With Geek, we’ve already covered the nominations, and we’ll be bringing you a complete report of the night’s winners on 10th May.
