If Easter has left you a bloated mess, and all you want to do is relax and enjoy yourself with as little movement as possible, maybe it’s time to indulge in the filmography of Ethan Hawke, one of the finest actors working today. Since he was 12 he’s been handing in great performances, and with his new time travel adventure Predestination hitting shelves today, let’s take a look at the man’s best work.

There is so much that could be said about Vin Diesel.

He’s the mammoth hunk of man meat. He’s an action hero star. He does a lot of charity work. Plus, he had a massive bromance with the late Paul Walker, so much so he recently named his daughter Pauline. Oh and he also likes to play Dungeons & Dragons whenever he can because Vin Diesel is an absolute huge geek. We love it!

Not only can he shift between mainstream action and “comedy” films but he can appear in our comic book adaptations too and do an equally stellar job in each. So here is a list of his best work...

Late last September, we were insanely excited for Julianne Moore’s turn in Map To The Stars. So much so that when it came around, we lauded the actress and gave her praise in a needed Essentials Article. And I remember, specifically saying that there was going to be a part two. Now that she’s an Oscar winner for her stirring role in this week’s Still Alice, (an award that has been a long time coming) we just can’t resist singing her praises again as we look at some Moore movies.

With the release of Kill the Messenger, Jeremy Renner combines his two career paths (low-key ambiguous dramas and exciting action flicks) into one remarkable true story of drugs-trafficking, government secrets and constant peril. The two-time Academy Award nominee may be a part of three of the biggest franchises of the moment: the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Mission Impossible films and the Bourne series, but he has had a varied and inventive career, from the celebrated The Hurt Locker to the downright insane Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Here are some of his best.

Honourable Mentions: Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, because while it may not be a great film, I’ve never before or since seen my dad cry with such joy at the sheer lunacy he was watching on screen. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, where via his small role he is able to show off his impressive vocal chops (write an Avengers musical, Joss Whedon!) Also the Angel episode “Somnambulist”, for being one of the most terrifying and sadistic characters in that show’s history.

After landing a few small times roles in films here and there, Rooney met with the right people for her career, got the roles she deserved and is now a more recognisable name in Hollywood and the public domain. Some actors are very flash in the pan in their career: their hits are gone just as quickly as they came. Whilst they may still appear in films, nothing will recreate their one shining moment of greatness. Other actors have a career full of hit films and whilst they may end up in some terrible films, their hits and their talent ensure a healthy and glittering career. One of these such actors is Ewan McGregor, a veteran Scottish actor with a career spanning over three decades. The nephew of actor Denis Lawson who appeared in the original Star Wars trilogy and Enid, McGregor has forged a stellar career on the merit of his own talent and determination. A man who does not appear desperate for the limelight at every move, he's received a lot of critical acclaim even when appearing in less than appealing films.

As we prepare for two films starring McGregor released within a week of each other with Mortdecai then Son of a Gun, here are some of his finest performances:

Steve Carell is one of the funniest actors working today. A hero of modern comedy, he has delighted audiences for years with his generally likeable persona and naturally funny expressions. However, ‘terrifying’ might be the best word to describe him in his new film Foxcatcher, in which he plays a role unlike any he’s played before alongside Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo in the psychological thriller that’s getting rave reviews. Not only that, but it looks like an Oscar nomination is on the cards for Carell. It’s all very exciting, so we’re gonna take a look back at the man’s career and highlight his best performances to date.
