The Wedding Ringer, not entirely dissimilar to the much better I Love You, Man, sees Doug marry the beautiful Gretchen but unfortunately, he doesn’t have any friends to call a "Best Man". He then hires Jimmy Callahan to fake the role and give him an expensive Best Man Service which includes a rowdy groom party, stag night and all kinds of hi-jinks. Hi-jinks that we may have (definitely have) seen before.
In this trailer alone, we have all sorts of cinematic tropes to cause as much offense as possible! Let’s see how typical The Wedding Ringer is of all comedies to come out of the states recently. For a start, the main actor Josh Gad (he’s the voice of Olaf and probably one of the reasons you hate Christmas this year) is paired up with The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuocuo-Sweeting in a relationship that Judd Apatow would approve. Then there is a whole lot of racist jokes, rapist jokes, homosexual jokes and a spree of men going wild on their stag do before the wedding.
I can’t wait to see how predictably lame this is. Because it’s definitely going to be.
The Wedding Ringer, surprise surprise, is out February 2015.
