He’s teamed up once again with the director of Music and Lyrics and Two Weeks Notice for The Rewrite. An award winning screenwriter (Grant) finds himself broke, depressed and becoming an alcoholic. In desperate need of cash, he agrees to teach a screenwriting class, despite not believing that writing can be taught. He chooses pretty girls for his class, pisses off the staff and tries to do as little as possible, but soon forms a bond with student Holly (Marisa Tomei), a single mother with two jobs to pay for her education, and realises he’s been looking for connection in the wrong places.
It’ll be nice to see Hugh Grant make the leap from bumbling posh idiot to bumbling posh screenwriter, and the film itself looks decent too. Two Weeks Notice and Music and Lyrics were both fairly well received by audiences, can the pair do it again? Let’s hope so, as The Rewrite has the potential to be one of the best feel good films of 2014.
The Rewrite is out October 10th.
