The Divergent Series: Insurgent seeks to do what all good sequels do, and that is to raise the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. And if this trailer is any indication, they sure look to have put a lot of stock into that principle.
In this second instalment, Tris (returning star Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) are now fugitives on the run from Jeanine (Kate Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
And by God, there's a lot in this thing. Revolution, elaborate gunfights, buildings collapsing... it's like The Matrix is trying to remake The Matrix. Don't get me wrong, it sure looks exciting, if utterly ridiculous and overblown. So I expect it should garner a fair bit of attention, even without the fans of the original novels filling seats.
