Suite Française is set during the Nazi occupation of France during World War Two. With the French Resistance fallen soldiers have invaded the streets and homes of many civilians. The story focuses on Lucille, (Michelle Williams) and her mother in law, (Kristin Scott Thomas) who await news of Lucille's husband. Forced to live with Bruno, (Matthias Schooners) a Nazi officer Lucille slowly begins to fall for him despite the reality of his position.
The film is directed by Saul Dibb whose previous works include Bullet Boy and The Dutchess. Based on the eponymous publishing's of Nemirovsky preserved and published by her daughters. The trailer shows the struggle of its main character Lucille as she grows closer to Bruno while her Country falls apart.
The real draw for the film is its impressive cast. Michelle Williams is a world away from her Dawson's Creek character she became famed for in the Nineties. With an impressive CV that includes Brokeback Mountain and Blue Valentine she's established her self as an actress of merit, along with Kristin Scott Thomas who is known for submerging herself into varied roles. The film is is cinemas early next year.
