Jeff Bridges is great, isn’t he? Of course he is. He was The Dude, for crying out loud. Quite simply, he’s one of the best actors working today, and his presence in a film is usually convincing enough to make you see it.
Something tells me that people will need a LOT more convincing before they consider seeing Seventh Son.
Based on the first book is Joseph Delaney’s The Wardstone Chronicles, The Spook’s Apprentice, Young Thomas (Ben Barnes) is apprenticed to the local Spook (Jeff Bridges) to learn to fight evil spirits. His first great challenge comes when the powerful Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) escapes her confinement whilst the spook is away.
This trailer is pretty run of the mill stuff for fantasy movies. Does it look terrible? Not really, but it’s one of those things where you look at it and think “I’ve seen all this before”. Now just cause it’s too familiar doesn’t mean the film is no good, but maybe very off putting to general audiences. Fans of the book (of which there are many), however, will certainly be lining up to see just how well this tale has transferred to screen, but will they be disappointed?
