The trailer for Pitch Perfect 2 has that exact effect. Yeah, that’s right, you heard me. Pitch perfect 2.
The first film was an absolute hit, a film that takes the stereotypical musical comedy plot and puts it on its head. Forget the generic High School Musical and Glee. This is in its own category.
Pitch Perfect 2 takes us back to the Bella’s after winning the national championships. We hear the Bellas sing a lovely rendition of Anna Kendrick’s Cups, a lovely, touching and seemingly emotional rendition that plays over a montage of clips of the groups all getting along like bosom buddies. The music stops and takes the seriousness with it. It’s back to hilarious jokes, rivalries and fart noises.
After getting in to a secret a cappella competition, we then see them travel to the world a cappella championships where, like the UK is hated by everyone in Eurovision, America is hated by all of the other countries. Queue hilarious pranks, gags and jokes, as we see the Bellas fight for world domination, a cappella style.
Elizabeth Banks, now not just playing a part in front of the camera (as one of the original competition judges) but now also directing the whole film, seems to have created a sequel filled with fantastic humour, huge dance and crowd sequences, amazing songs and vocals and great acting. It was always going to be hard to top the first film. However this sequel may just do it.
Pitch Perfect will be released in UK cinemas on the 15th of May 2015.
