This new trailer is fast paced, setting up Gyllenhaal in the cut-throat world of crime journalism and he doesn't seem out of place; gaunt and with slicked back hair, his character breathes an air of scuzz that fits his less than glamourous lifestyle perfectly. Lou Bloom (Gyllenhaal) prays on disaster, wanting to be the first on the scene to capture any and all crime, he even goes so far as to delay police response to get what he wants. This all builds until it seems that he gets caught up in his own police investigation, running from the police on some serious charges.
Nightcrawler seems set to be a solid crime-thriller, Gyllenhaal's acting is nothing short of sharp and everything seems to tie-in together to portray a seedy world, motivated by money and self-image. What the trailer doesn't hint at however, is if Bloom manages to gain at least a little self-redemption before the story runs it course. One to keep an eye on then, maybe?
Nightcrawler is directed by Dan Gilroy and co-stars Rene Russo and Bil Paxton. It will be released in cinemas nationwide on October 17th.
