Mommy revolves around a single unconventional mother who is struggling to make ends meet after being widowed. Her son is unpredictable, suffering from ADHD and a violent temper. As they attempt to, unsuccessfully, make ends meet, a new neighbour called Kyla comes into their lives to help. As this trio of people strive to balance their lives, they could find that love and family come in many different forms.
Despite the hammy trailer music, Mommy looks to be an intriguing and tender tale of family whilst also playing with all the emotion too. I have no doubt that Dolan will do great things here and it’ll be another critically acclaimed piece in his already strong portfolio. The acting looks on point, from key figures Antoine Olivier, Anne Dorval and Suzanne Clement, and the aesthetic is already stunning.
