Coming from the director of The Hunt , we don't expect any less than evocative drama here. Starring Carey Mulligan, Tom Sturridge, Matthias Schoenaerts and Michael Sheen this adaptation has received a lot of hype about its gorgeous look and it's clear why. The imagery is beautiful with some clear care being put into the look of the film whether it's the captivating sceneries against deep sunsets, the characters costumes and the natural way the characters faces look (not an overly glamorous Hollywood face in sight!) all comes together to create a look that may captivate the audiences in the Spring. What's also refreshing is the character Mulligan plays and how she plays her. Unapologetic and passionate with a fresh sense of free will, it's great to see such a character in a film. Especially, because a certain grey film hasn't helped female characters lately.
When people think of classic Victorian novels, they usually think of Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice. Hopefully this adaptation of Far From The Madding Crowd will project Hardy's work to the popular conscious.
Far From The Madding Crowd is out May 1st
