Branagh has teamed up with Disney to bring a live-action version of the story of Cinderella. The origins of this story are many but all have a strong degree of darkness especially the version by The Grimm Brothers. If you’re reading this, you probably hear the word ‘Cinderella’ and think of the animated film Disney made in 1950. So how does this trailer fare out?
If anyone thinks it’s going to be a carbon cut-out of the animated film, they could be wrong. It appears that Cinderella and the Prince may well develop a relationship before the Ball takes place, a move I frankly think is a step in the right direction. The general public are mature and aware enough to find the notion of love at first sight is even too ridiculous for films nowadays. That doesn’t mean to say there won’t be some irritating moments that may grate on the nerves somewhat but even I, a person who isn’t a fan of Disney princess stories, would be willing to give this film a go at the cinema.
As a sidenote I would like to add that as soon as I saw Cinderella’s ball dress, I wanted that outfit to cosplay. I’m not the kind to be into princess stories but you can’t fault a nice outfit when it’s on the screen.
