In the run up to its release next month, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have began their TV campaign for Annabelle, an upcoming horror film loosely based on a real doll that is suspected to be possessed by an evil entity.
The horror prequel stars the creepy doll from the hugely successful 2013 supernatural thriller The Conjuring who gets her own origin story here. With the first trailers for the quasi Conjuring spin-off, we see an expectant married couple love Annabelle as part of their nursery décor. However things turn for the worse when an intruder’s blood seeps into the eyes of the doll, soon causing her to become possessed.
Having dropped the first TV spot for Annabelle, things are looking even creepier. The spot focuses almost entirely on the sinister doll herself after the fateful night that sets everything in motion. A very discomforting voiceover explains how Annabelle has a life of her own. “It started out small, like a hand or a leg was in a different position. But and then one day, it was in a completely different room.” We watch as Annabelle starts to torture her family and can only imagine it getting worse from there.
The real life doll is currently being kept on display in a glass case at the Warren Occult Museum in Moodus, Connecticut. Multiple visitors have claimed to see the doll move or even growl. Now, whether you believe in the supernatural or not, the TV spot below does well in making sure you jump out of your seat at any opportunity.
Fans of the previous film should love this upcoming spin-off, and although not a particularly huge fan of horror, I for one will be curious to learn more about the origins of the possessed Annabelle.
Annabelle will be haunting UK cinemas from October 10th.
