And then there is Annabelle.
Spinning off from the great James Waan film The Conjuring, Annabelle revolves around the doll who made her fame roaming the house of Ed and Lorraine Warren (the ghost hunters who captured her in the first five minutes of the movie.) However, there is a more sinister story lurking beneath the smile (creepy creepy smile) of Annabelle and her story is finally going to be told. See, Annabelle is a conduit which means devils and spirits can possess her. When a child finds the doll and slips into her, those who own Annabelle, finds that a series of murderous deaths soon follow.
Ok. So they definitely have the creepy factor going on for them, particularly as it is from the creators of one of the most frightening cinema escapades in recent years. However, there doesn’t seem to be much new here. There is definitely a smattering of Chucky which will certainly be the level of campy horror people will expect. The choice here is whether to make it a good campy show or let it suffer in seriousness.
Only time will tell. Only one thing can be sure, you’ll never look at heathen dolls again.
