As we inch ever closer towards the October release date of The Maze Runner, more and more goodies keep emerging from the maze. This time, it’s a clip entitled “survive”, which is more like another mini-trailer if anything.
We’re in exposition central as Minho (Ki Hong Lee), Keeper of the Runners, explains to newcomer Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) the rules of the maze. With a fairly creative use of subtitles across the maze walls, the rules are kept thankfully simple, so while Minho is basically explaining things to the audience, it’s not one big, dull exposition dump. This clip offers us two things that the previous trailers haven’t done yet. First, we finally get to see a bit of Minho in action. One of the key characters from the book, and one of Thomas’ closest allies, Minho has been surprisingly absent from promotional materials thus far. But here, we get to see his matter of fact personality, and the action-packed role he has within the Glade.
We also get to see more of the Maze than we ever have done before, with its towering, moving walls, and fearsome creatures the Grievers waiting around every corner to attack. With the typical action film staples of fast editing, bold music, and a warning from Alby (Aml Ameen) that Thomas “follow the rules”, these preview clips are certainly starting to get the blood pumping.
