It’s only natural for you all to roll your eyes at the latest young adult adventure based on a series of novels set in a dystopian world.
It is also natural for you to roll your eyes as there is seemingly only one girl in the entire film who equally feels like just a romantic love interest for our main character.
It’s only natural for you to roll your eyes, just a little. Ok, go.
Now stop, because here are some of the characters from The Maze Runner that we are absolutely 100% sure that you are going to fall in love with.
First of all, meet Gally. Beefy and unrelenting about the rules, Gally is unsure of Thomas' presence in the Glade. Played, with an effective American accent by Will Poulter, Gally is a head strong boy who is worried about the effects of Thomas’ strange arrival and his reckless pursuit to not follow the rules. There is clearly going to be some friction here as a side antagonist but Gally, for now, is interesting because it marks yet another step up in Will Poulter’s fame ladder and we’re thrilled to see it. | |
Then there is Alby. This assuming leader is the head of the entire Glade thanks to his position as number one. Having to figure out that the maze that envelops the entire scenic land is full of many dangerous things, Alby was forced to create a community and fight for survival. Stoic as any other leader and played by Aml Ameen (another Brit though you'd never guess), Alby look to be an intriguing level headed character who can help guide our protagonist to greatness and possibly freedom. | Secondly, meet Teresa. Yes, the only oestrogen clad human in the entire film so far and there is nothing more than that in this character piece. Though, we can wave a flag for Brits like “yes, we’re infiltrating a lot younger now into your American franchises.” So it is time to look at Teresa, played by Kaya Scodelario who is thrust into the world of the Glade in similar ways to the boy except she’s a film so equally her presence is felt as unnerving to the rest of the characters. |
| That protagonist being Thomas. The most interesting and highly exciting casting here thanks to the pandemonium of fan girls lurking behind him but Dylan O’Brien gets a major role as the face of The Maze Runner franchise. O’Brien, more famed for his scene stealing as Stiles Stilinski in Teen Wolf, is Thomas – a boy thrust randomly into the “Glade” with no recollection of who he is before. But he is damned sure that he isn’t going to be stuck in the evergreen land of the Glade and is ready to face the maze. |
All questions will be answered on 10th of October when The Maze Runner hits cinemas.
