Denzel Washington is back for another action romp in The Equalizer. Denzel plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer. Here we have a featurette and a clip for you to check out!
In the clip, McCall is visited by a shady police officer who asks him questions about a homicide in which McCall was in the area of. When McCall says he doesn’t know much, the officer leaves, but not before McCall asks for a card, and then questions how the police knew he was at the restaurant when he made no reservations, left no name etc. It’s a short but sweet clip, giving us an insight into the shady, mysterious figures of the film. | |
| Next up is the featurette, which talks about McCall’s ‘special skills’. Director Antoine Fuqua starts off saying “The Equalizer is not a typical action character who just beats the crap out of everybody. He has special skills to help people in trouble, levelling the playing field. If you don’t [do the right thing], then you have to deal with The Equalizer, and that’s the fun of it”. Producer Todd Black talks about McCalls’s senses, most likely gained from his time in Black Ops “He scans the room in two seconds. He’ll know exactly what’s to your left, what’s to your right, what’s here, what’s there. |
He will use any of those things to stop you in your tracks” Stunt Co-ordinator Keith Woulard talks about Denzel doing his stunts “Denzel didn’t want a lot of martial arts, he wanted it dirty and gritty, but he wants it smart”. Antoine continues “Denzel boxes every day, he’s a boxer, he’s on set boxing every day. It’s really close and personal and you don’t wanna be in a room with a guy like that”. Finally, Denzel speaks of his character “He’s working real hard to just blend in”, with Antoine adding “He’s a regular guy, a regular Joe, nothing special until that switch goes off”
The featurette is littered with some pretty cool clips from the film. The Equalizer has lots of chances to be a cliche’d action/revenge film, let’s just hope it doesn’t take them because it could be a damn good watch.
The Equalizer is out September 26th.
