McCarthy plays to type once more as bumbling undercover agent Susan Cooper. She and fellow spy Rick Ford (Jason Statham) are out to neutralise a nuclear threat, and the two take centre stage in this relatively hilarious clip.
It’s absolutely brimming with Stathamy moments as well as a dose of McCarthy doing what she does best – being a bit ditzy. It did have me chuckling which is a massive rarity for a film of this type, so credit where it’s due, Mr. Feig. Statham manages to transcend his traditional action roles and go all meta on us, clearly diving into self-parody whilst maintaining the serious face we all know and love.
The clip isn’t that long but we get enough here to whet the appetites of those desperate for spoof comedy. With any luck the film will be full of moments like this and they won’t just be confined to the promo material.
Find out when Spy comes out May 23rd.
