Set at the tail end of the 19th Century, we follow 17-year old Jay (Kodi Smit-McPhee) as he takes to the Colorado landscape from his native Scotland, looking to reunite with the woman he loves. Though he very quickly finds himself out of his depth, he just as quickly comes upon a mysterious stranger named Silas (the almighty Michael Fassbender), who's good with a gun and willing to use it watch over the boy for cash.
There is a distinctive sensibility that's already evident in the trailer for Slow West, an almost absurd visual vibrancy that you'd expect were someone like Wes Anderson ever to take his camera out the dusty plains circa 1885. Writer-director John Maclean makes his feature debut here, teaming once more with friend Fassbender, and bringing along the considerable talents of Smit-McPhee, Ben Mendelsohn and Caren Pistorious.
Slow West hits US cinemas in May, with UK cinemas getting it in June.
